Summer School
Upward Bound is a certified APS summer school site to its select student group. Students earn APS credit in a variety of subjects such as: Pre-Calculus, Spanish, English, and Chemistry.
Dual Credit
Upward Bound offers Dual Credit to its High School Juniors each summer as part of its Summer School Curriculum
Tutoring
Upward Bound hosts tutoring sessions every Saturday at UNM main campus. Upward Bound makes weekly visits to our APS partner schools where we provide tutoring and college prep workshops. We have plenty of tutors, supplies, and technological resources to complete academic assignments.
Cultural Events
Cultural events encompass diverse curriculum of rich learning experiences such as, theatre, arts, sciences, music, and lifetime fitness. Some examples of recent events include: Tent Rocks Hike, Washington D.C., Six Flags, Rock Climbing, Festival of the Cranes, and the Marigold Parade
Mentoring
Mentoring sessions occur on select Sunday’s and Friday evenings during the Academic Calendar Year. In addition, students engage with mentors during our weekly program events.
College Visits
Upward Bound visits various New Mexico and national college campuses year. Students have the opportunity to visit a new campus each semester. Some of the schools include: NM Highlands, Eastern, NMSU, UNM, and Georgetown University.
Saturday Academy
Saturday Academies occur bi-weekly over the academic year. In Saturday Academies students receive academic workshops led by licensed educators in a variety of academic topics and subjects. Workshops are developmentally appropriate for each grade level. All workshops are aligned to New Mexico State Standards for each content area.
Youth Leadership
Upward Bound prepares students for public speaking, presentation skill, and leading discussions. This program is designed to prepare students to be active learners and leaders in a school setting.
Test Prep
Students receive test prep for college entrance exams such as the ACT. In addition, Upward Bound offers test prep for the high school graduation test the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment. Both of these services are led by licensed educators.
Parent Workshops
Parent workshops are once per month as part of a Saturday Academy session. During Parent Workshops a wide variety of topics are discussed, from College registration to financial aid. These are informal sessions!
Stipends
Students also have the opportunity to receive a stipend to support them in their commitment to succeed. Stipends amounts are derived from student participation in program functions, the more students come…the more they can earn!
